INDONESIA GETS WORLD BANK LOAN TO HELP UPGRADE ITS TELECOM’s

The World Bank is to lend $375m to Indonesia for the upgrade and expansion of its telephone system: the money will be used as part of a $1,350m project to improve the country’s telephone network; additional financing is being provided by Germany, France, Japan, the Netherlands, and the US; according to World Bank figures, only 70% of expressed demand for telephones was satisfied last year, with just 20% of long-distance calls completed.
