The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), the apex body for India’s software industry, sees Goa as the next hot spot for software development in India. The state, which was ruled by the Portuguese until 1962, has all the ingredients needed to host software companies. It has a good road system, well-educated manpower with good English skills, several large universities and a temperate climate. Nasscom has advised Goa to build a super software corridor between the state capital Panaji and the southern Goan town of Margao, by linking them with a high-intensity optical fiber network, and offering incentives to software firms in the form of cheap land and tax breaks. Goa has also been advised by Nasscom to promote the establishment of an Indian Institute of Information Technology.
