The popular game ‘Angry Birds’ has been used as a source of inspiration for ‘Angry Brides’ by shaadi.com, an Indian matrimonial website with over two million users.

The details about the latest roll-out were revealed by the shaadi.com Vice President Ram Bhamidi

The game aims to hit out at age-old custom of dowry, whereby valuables such as jewellery, money and cars are given by the bride’s parents to the groom to ensure that their child is well taken care off at her in-law’s place.

Though the practice was made unlawful on paper five decades back, it continues to be a menace plaguing Indian society at large.

The groom’s family demand more money even after the marriage and this has caused many a bride to to commit suicide or being put to death in purported ‘stove accidents.’

Coming to the game, a player has to take an aim on three grooms, each having a price tag of his own. Every time a player hits a groom, the equivalent value is added to the player’s account and saved on the Facebook post.

"A woman will give you strength, care and all the love you need … NOT dowry!" says the caption on the game’s page, while the bride is depicted by an eight-armed woman resembling a poular Hindu goddess.

It has gained in popularity, with both men and women liking the app, as about 270,000 people were said to have played the game to date.
