Somewhat belatedly, India plans to kick-off a $2.3m countrywide public awareness campaign about Y2K problem this month. The allocation is likely to feature in Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha’s Union Budget proposals for 1999-2000. The Department of Electronic (DoE) will launch a media campaign. The advertisements placed in the print and visual media will have the address of a web site which can provide information on Y2K issues, along with 24-hour telephone assistance services numbers and a help desk. These ads will be backed up by 25,000 to 30,000 mailers to be sent to a host of people.
