India’s electronics industry output, which stood at $4,200m in 1993 is expected to be $10,000m by 1997 and nearly $16,000m by the turn of the century, the India Trade PromotionOrganisation said ahead of an electronics exhibition opening in New Delhi today: India’s electronics industry grew at 15.5% in 1993, way ahead of the industrial growth rate of 1.4%, Reuter reports, and electronic exports grew at 30%, above average export growth of 20.4% in 1993; software exports alone grew at 405; The main objectives of the exhibition are to provide a gateway to industrialised nations seeking to introduce new and state-of-the-art technology and products into the Indian market (and) to provide an opportunity to Indian industrialists seeking high growth investment opportunities, the trade body said; delegations from the US, UK, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Canada will take part in the five-day Electronics India fair, the government trade body asserted.
