INDIA MAY BUY UNWANTED EARLY WARNING RADAR SETS FROM GEC

By CBR Staff Writer

GEC may find a home in India for the 13 unwanted early warning radar sets from the cancelled Nimrod contract: according to the Daily Telegraph, the Indians are not satisfied with the performance of the Soviet IL-76 Mainstay aircraft and have rejected it, but the Americans refuse to sell them the Boeing-Westinghouse AWACS system; GEC Avionics is now looking at fitting the Nimrod radar into one of three airframes – Hawker-Siddeley 748, Boeing 707, or Airbus Airbus A310, the last in collaboration with Messerschmitt-Blkow-Blohm of Germany.
