India’s electronic and telecommunications companies have received a helping hand from the Finance Minister on Monday when he cut import tariffs on computer parts, components and optical fibres, Reuter reports from New Delhi: local companies have been complaining that they are at a severe disadvantage as a result of the 85% duties, but the new level will still be 50%; software buyers do better, with the duties on applications cut to 20% from as much as 80%; the government also cut import duty on non-electronic parts required for the manufacture of telecommunications equipment to 40% from 50%, and for optical fibre to 40% from 85% now.
