The Indian desk-based and mobile PC market in the fourth quarter of 2010 crossed 2.7 million units with a growth rate of 16.2% year-over-year, according to a new research from Gartner.

Gartner principal research analyst Vishal Tripathi said the growth was primarily driven by the mobile PC market which grew 39% in the fourth quarter of 2010.

"A fall in prices, large deals from governments and demand from consumers and the education sector drove Mobile PCs sales, and many small and midsize businesses are buying mobile PC’s which is further fuelling growth," Tripathi said.

HP maintained its top position in Indian PC market with a 15.8% market share, Dell held second place with 13% of market share.

Acer held the third place with 10.7% share of total PC market, while Dell and HCL stood at fourth and fifth place with 9.6% and 7.8% market share, respectively.
