Zitel Corp, Milpitas, California claims a four-fold increase in throughput over thin film disks for its 1M-bit memory chip-based RAMdisk/ALX for Unisys A Series, V Series and BX900 mainframes: the product is configurable with up to 1Gb gigabyte per cabinet, and is claimed to 1,200 input-output operations per second against 34 for the fastest Unisys film drive; prices start at $117,000 for 128Mb, and a 1Gb cabinet costs $625,000.
