In the UK, IBM has not yet delivered the RS/6000 in significant numbers: although a fair amount of software has now been converted for the machines, IBM value-added resellers that we spoke to said they were not expecting volume shipments of the 320, 520 and 530 models – scheduled for June – until October; most had only recently received initial evaluation systems and one said if nothing else, at least the operating system is now coming through in quantity, though we’re waiting for the boxes to follow, while another claimed that delivery timescales are around two months – but it depends how hard we push them (IBM) – all of which helps explain IBM UK’s paralysis in its mid-range market (CI No 1,493).
