International Microcomputer Software Inc, the San Rafael-based, the computer-aided design software house that has ambitions to become a visual content software house, has agreed to acquire Tuscan, Arizona-based Zedcor Inc for $3.5m. Zedcor owns the internet visual content site ArtToday.com, which makes 750,000 art and animation images and photographs available to around 50,000 subscribers. Zedcor claims to be adding 5,000 subscribers per month, each paying $30 a month for unlimited access. IMSI will use the acquisition to speed up its own entry into online visual content, based around its MasterClips product line, currently a boxed retail product for PCs. IMSI recently launched a MasterClips image server in a bid to interest the corporate marketplace in the product. It will pay the money with common stock and deferred cash payments through the year 2001. The combination of MasterClips and Zedcor will result in a library of one million art images, animations and photographs, the company said.
