IMATION TO MAKE PLATTERS FOR “REVOLUTIONARY” TERASTOR DRIVE

By CBR Staff Writer

First taker for TeraStor Corp’s revolutionary new Near Field Recording system (CI No 3,113) is Oakdale, Minnesota-based Imation Corp, which has licensed the technology and plans to develop a medium for the planned erasable magneto-optical drives. Imation, the disk and tape cartridge and media spin-off from Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co Inc, 3M, says it gets a semi- exclusive and long-term license to manufacture products that are expected to feature user capacities of about 20Gb, with performance comparable to magnetic disk drives. Product introduction is set for the first half 1998.
