Imagination looks to Kickstarter for Creator Ci40 IoT dev kit

News: Presently the campaign has raised £4,080 with 52 backers.

British tech firm Imagination Technologies has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Creator Ci40, a development kit designed for IoT applications.

The kit consists of hardware and open source software components that can be used to develop next-generation wireless connected projects and for connecting devices between each other and to the cloud.

The hardware components include a low-power, high-performance microcomputer featuring a new MIPS-based chip optimised for IoT applications.

It will act as an IoT hub and will be capable of running a number of Linux-based operating system, including OpenWrt, Debian and Brillo from Google.

It also includes two battery-powered 6LoWPAN Clicker expansion boards with a mikroBUS socket for adding sensors and three click companion boards, a temperature sensor, a motion sensor and a relay switch.

As for the software components, the kit includes cloud platform FlowCloud which is used for connecting devices to the internet, and facilitates easy product registration and updates as well as provides access to partner-enabled services.

It also includes open source software frameworks, network stacks and cloud connectivity.

With a target of raising £20,000, the price of the kit is set at £80, with a £10 discount for the first 200 backers.

According to Imagination, the Creator Ci40 can be used for creating home automation, e-health, smart cities, security and surveillance, safety-critical connected sensors, environment and air quality monitoring technologies.
