IMAGECARD 8200 SCSI PRINTER CONTROLLERS ARE FROM ADAPTEC

By CBR Staff Writer

Milpitas, California-based Adaptec Inc is entering the host-based printing market with an ImageCard 8200 series of Small Computer System Interface printer controllers: with host-based printing, image rasterisation and font rendering are generated by the workstation instead of the printer and the ImageCard 8200 series uses Adaptec’s proprietary AIC-8000 PageChip application-specific circuit and SCSI protocol chips, an MC68000 central processing unit and from 512Kb of memory to support complex printing applications; it is designed to optimise the power of Canon Inc’s LBP-LX, -SX and -NX laser printer engines; the SCSI bus is bi-directional so that status and error conditions can be reported to the user; no prices given.
