ILLINOIS SUPERCONDUCTOR’s SWITCH FOR US ARMY

Illinois Superconductor Corp, Evanston, Illinois reports that it has delivered a prototype magnetically-activated superconducting switch to the US Army Research Laboratory in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, where it is undergoing testing: the shipment completes one of its major objectives on the $500,000 contract funded by the Ballistic Missle Defense Organisation and the ultra-low resistance switch is turned on and off by a low level magnetic field and will be used on electrical systems that run off very low power supplies.
