Englewood, Colorado-based IHS gets its hands on SupplyEdge’s PCNAlert technology, which is used to provide product change and end-of-life notifications for electronic components manufacturers.

Component manufacturers face the challenge of identifying potential part obsolescence issues early on in the design, procurement, production, quality control, and service and repair lifecycle. PCNAlert will help them to better manage their component inventories, sourcing and supply chains.

PCNAlert will be offered as an add-on to IHS’ proprietary components database for the electronic components industry.

The acquisition of PCNAlert advances our strategy of expanding our proprietary database of parts information and related decision-support tools, said Jeffrey Tarr, COO of IHS’ engineering business unit.

The acquisition follows IHS’ acquisition last week of John Herold, a research firm specializing in oil and gas, for $48m.

IHS also provides data and analysis to companies in the energy, aerospace, construction and automotive industries.
