According to Medem, the iHealthRecord system stores personal health data which can be updated, and provides services designed to increase medication adherence, enhance continuity of care and improve patient-physician communication. Patients receive automated education programs specific to their medical conditions, medication reminders and safety warnings and recalls relating to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The iHealthRecord patient education programs are developed in conjunction with US medical societies including the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, CDC and the FDA.

Patients and physicians must be confident that privacy and security are in place as healthcare moves into a more interactive and electronic future, commented Nancy Dickey, president of Texas A&M University System Health Science Center. The iHealthRecord is a truly unique service that provides both a critical step forward and a cornerstone to the nation’s efforts to empower patients and improve medicine using information technology.
