Revelation Technologies Inc has brought an update of its database package for local area networks to the UK, six months after it was launched in the US. Called Advanced Revelation, the database which is a fourth generation language operating environment, will be distributed exclusively through ICS Ltd, Intelligent Computer Services (Sales) Ltd of Basingstoke, Hampshire, primarily to the network market and systems developers. ICS claims its selling edge over rivals such as Oracle, dBase and R:Base will rest on its suitability for the multi-user environment whereas the majority of networked MS-DOS databases on the market were developed with the single user in mind. The company claims that by the third quarter of this year the product will comply with SQL, and providing that IBM is up to speed, OS/2 and Presentation Manager, although this looks over optimistic at the moment. ICS cited the Lord Chancellor’s Department – which has switched from Oracle in its favour – and the Inland Revenue as its existing UK base: no figures are being given for US sales.
