ICL WINS UKP1.2m BRITISH RHINE ARMY CONTRACT FOR OFFICEPOWER

ICL Ltd has won a UKP1.2m contract from the UK Ministry of Defence for office automation systems at the British Army of the Rhine headquarters at Rheindahlen in West Germany. ICL will supply UKP1.2m of DRS 300 hardware – 80286 models under Unix – running the OfficePower office automation software from Computer Consoles Inc, Waltham, Massachusetts, along with laser printers and fibre optic links between terminals and the existing high-end Series 39 Level 60 mainframe. The installation should be complete by September. ICL supplied a similar system, codenamed Lion, to the RAF headquarters in Germany last March, and has been named supplier of the Ministry Landscape project to automate the British Forces’ land-based equipment procurement proceedures in a contract worth UKP9m.
