Lockheed Martin, the prime contractor for the UK’s next census in 2001, has awarded a 23m-pound ($37m) process outsourcing contract to UK-based services company ICL Plc. ICL said it would undertake conversion and data processing of the census forms. It will provide project management, center management, and staff for processing and technical support, which will mean hiring an additional 1,000 employees, it added. The census will require processing of forms from each of the country’s 32 million households, converting paper documents into electronic data.
