ICL WINS ORDER FROM DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY REGIONAL COUNCIL

By CBR Staff Writer

ICL has won an order from Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council to install the country’s first network to handle the new Community Charge or poll tax: the wide area network will connect cash receipting offices in the region to the council’s headquarters at Dumfries, allowing access to the balance of payments for an anticipated 120,000 residents liable under the new charge in 1989 – the network is based on X25 international standards, and comprises ICL’s Ospac packet switches, Osmux K30 managed multiplexers, modems supplied by ICL, and a central network management facility.
