ICL has made further progress in its integrated services digital network ambitions with the announcement of a joint research programme with Nynex Corp, the New York and New England phone company, and one of the three Baby Bells to agree in May to mark et ICL’s ISDN workstation in the US (CI No 940). The two companies will investigate applications of ISDN services and technology on the ISDN workstation, which was launch ed last autumn. The ability to access Nynex services from ISDN terminals using the CCITT V.120 rate adaption for data transport will be studied, kicking off with connections to Nynex’s Switchway switched 56Kbps and Infopath pack et-switched services. The ICL workstation now provides features including protocol characteristics, feature activation, and simultane ous voice and data communications over a basic rate ISDN interface.
