ICL OPTS FOR ITL’s BROADBAND CABLESTREAM NET

By CBR Staff Writer

As one door closes, another opens for ITL Information Technology Plc: ICL is bringing to a close one of the longest-standing OEM contracts in the industry, that for front-end communications processors for its mainframes, which it has for long bought from ITL Information Technology Plc. But ICL has now decided that it should add a broadband – multi-channel – dimension to its Oslan Open System Local Area Network – and where else should it go but to its old friend over in Hemel Hempstead. It has signed with ITL for its Cablestream 8000 technology, which enables Ethernets to be carried over broadband networks, inter alia enabling the network to span larger distances. No financial details of the pact were given.
