ICL INTRODUCES 21 NEW MODELS IN ITS HIGH-END SERIES 39 SX FAMILY

ICL Plc has also announced 21 new models in its Series 39 SX mainframe line, claiming up to 40% better price-performance at the entry level. The new baby, the 335-10, is rated at 8 IBM MIPS and costs UKP360,000. At the top of the line, the six-processor 695-60, rated at 259 MIPS, comes with up to 4.5Gb of main memory and costs UKP21m. The new line offers smaller upgrade steps, with increments of about 25% between models. ICL claims that the Series 39 base has grown by almost 40% since 1987, and that over 100 SX systems were shipped last year, including the first to be installed in Australia, Denmark, Hungary and Zimbabwe.
