ICL INC SHUTS UP SHOP IN UTICA

By CBR Staff Writer

ICL’s brave adventure where, following acquisition of the US operations of Cogar Inc from Singer Co, it took over a disused shopping mall in Utica, upstate New York, and manufactured point-of-sale peripherals and did development work there, has finally ended with the closure of the last remaining operation, the 76-employee research and development facility. The move puts 60 people out of a job, and the rest will transfer to other ICL facilities. The operation had most recently been doing development work on the DRS line, ultimate successor to the ancient Cogar System 4, but the work is now all being consolidated back home in the UK.
