ICL Ltd has won a UKP2m-plus order for the biggest Series 39 mainframe in India from Computer Maintenance Corp Ltd, the Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh maintenance and computer services company formed out of the maintenance operations of IBM India when than company quit the country rather than concede a degree of local ownership. CMC wants a Series 39 Level 80 supporting DRS 300 and Sun Microsystems workstations for its System Deevelopment centre in Hyderabad, and ICL has guaranteed the company offset software and services contracts worth UKP2m over four years. CMC looks to increase exports of software and services, and to expand the Indonet national data network, which currently provides access to five large computers scattered around the subcontinent.
