ICL Plc has landed its OEM tape library supplier Storage Technology Ltd with demands to support and market products that ICL had been taking OEM. Storage Technology will now sell the drives to ICL as before but is then expected to use its own marketing budget to sell the Nearline product family to ICL customers in the UK. It is also expected to prequalify the products and to handle technical support. The firm will be paid commission on what it markets. Neither ICL or StorageTek would reveal whether the latter’s margins would suffer as a result of the deal, but StorageTek spoke of the expertise it felt it had to offer to the ICL market.
