ICL’s marketing strategy has long been to surround IBM mainframes with its products, which means that full SNA compatibility within its IPA Open Systems standard Information Processing Architecture is a rather vital component. The Putney mainframer has just revealed that it signed last September for everything it needed in the way of SNA software with Communications Solutions Inc of San Jose, California. Communications Solutions is supplying its full line of Access/SNA software. The agreement, on undisclosed terms, provides ICL with implementations for IBM’s Advanced Program-to-Program Communication, Document Interchange Architecture and SNA Distribution Services, as well as traditional 3270 emulation. As a result, ICL will be able to offer its users capability to exchange data and word processed documents with SNA host applications.
