ICL FORMS UNIT TO SELL TO PTTs: PACTS WITH THREE BELLS IN PROSPECT

By CBR Staff Writer

ICL yesterday revealed that it has formed a sixth vertical market line-of-business unit, this one to handle marketing of products and services to PTTs. The new unit, as yet unnamed, comes under Bob Smith, formerly director of ICL Network Systems, and expects to get off to a very good start with agreements to sell the company’s new Integrated Services Digital Networking terminal to three US local phone companies – Nynex Corp, Southwestern Bell Corp and Southern New England Telecommunications Corp. Capitalising on ICL’s business with British Telecom and its new won relationship with Northern Telecom Ltd, the new unit will offer PTTs worldwide information systems, intelligent networking facilities, and network information services outside the ones covered by its agreements with GE Information Services and the INS value-added network. The ISDN Professional Workstation is an ICL MS-DOS micro fitted with the ISDN 2B+D basic rate interface.
