PROJECTICL’s Spanish arm, ICL Espana SA, is to represent Spain in the European General Research Programme, Esprit II, following the European Community Commission’s approval of a new information technology project within the research programme. ICL is to help develop an Integrated Modelling Support Environment, with the main object of offering a totally transportable support environment for an integrated set of modelling tools for graphics workstations under Unix. The Integrated Environment will concentrate mainly on performance modelling support as an integral part of the design process in numerous development areas of new generation computers. The techniques will also be used in areas such as com-uter integrated manufacture, communications networks, and information technology systems design. The project is particularly important in the area of computer performance modelling tools and techniques, given the general lack of unified analysis standards here. ICL Espana has already started work on the project which has a budget of $6.8m and should employ 50 people per year. ICL and its parent STC Plc already participate in 14 different projects under Esprit II, and lead four of them.
