London-based ICL Plc is doing some rapid bridge building with Santa Cruz Operation Inc after two or three years that has seen it downgrade the status of its relationship with the Californian company. The cooling off followed problems with ICL’s Sparc Unix strategy and its excitement about the prospect of other Unixes-on-iAPX-86 including Novell Inc UnixWare. But further to ICL’s decision to offer pretty much whatever operating system the customer chooses on its latest TeamServer and SuperServer ranges (CI No 2,449), ICL is extending some of its technologies to the Santa Cruz systems it offers, including High Availability Manager, the Content Addressable File Store-based database Search Accelerator and TeamOffice office automation groupware. All are slated for delivery on Santa Cruz-based TeamServers some time during next year.
