ICL Plc’s ICL Retail Systems and Fujitsu Ltd have joined forces to design and develop what they claim is the first functional retail point-of-sale workstation with a fully integrated industry standard control unit that enables users to mix and match point-of sale-components to meet specific requirements. TeamPoS 5000 components can be stacked to form an integrated terminal configuration or dispersed to form a modular terminal. The workstation comprises an integrated TeamPoS 5000 control unit with standard personal computer board, for personal computer functions; three slot AT bus board, for AT add-in boards; optional hard and floppy disks; an ICL OPC, Open Peripheral Connect board for point od sale peripheral control; batteries for continued processor operation and CMOS memory protection during potential power failures. TeamPoS 5000 will be sold through ICL’s direct sales organisation and through indirect channels. The system is available now in the US with a standard 80486SL/25 processor or an opional 33MHz 80486 or 66MHz 80486DX2 processor at a bese price of $6,000.
