The fainthearted who believed IBM’s Trintex viewdata joint venture with Sears Roebuck & Co would never see the light of day will be confounded when the service starts next year in San Francisco. With the usual mix of news and home banking and shopping, delivered to an MS-DOS micro, it will use the power of the computer to enhance ease of use. Called Prodigy Interactive Personal System, it will have a monthly subscription fee but no usage charge – costs will be part met by advertisements – little bits of ads will appear at the bottom of every page.
