According to some networking distributors, IBM’s PS/2 Model 95 will not work when configured with Novell Inc’s NetWare operating system on an Ethernet network: Corporate Computers, a Novell Authorised System House has been informed by several of its NetWare suppliers of problems with the NetWare-PS/2 95 combination, and has received reports that the machine’s disk drive controller can only access NetWare data on a Token-Ring network; Novell however, insists that the 95 has been through its US testing centre and is 100% NetWare 386-compliant: launched last November, the Model 95 is part of IBM’s efforts to get into the growing file server market and clearly needs to run NetWare, by far the most widely used product; despite the denials of problems from the principles, sources say that a patch is being written by Novell to cover the problem, but while IBM is said to be looking in to the issue, Novell categorically denied problems but added that if there were any, they would be immediately attended to.
