IBM’S PERSONAL COMPUTER ADVERTISING

Americans are spared the embarrassment of IBM’s irritating Little Tramp in its personal computer advertising these days – but perhaps IBM would have been safer sticking with an impersonation of somebody safely departed: the company now uses MASH star Alan Alda in its ads, and according to USA Today, Alda was spotted in New York the other day buying a $2,500 Toshiba Corp laptop – and another customer reportedly put the obvious question got tired of waiting for IBM to come out with its own laptop then? Alda, it is claimed, merely smiled.
