IBM’s OfficeVision concept has reportedly cracked a very big nut indeed, none other than Imperial Chemical Industries Plc, ICI: gossip that DEC’s All-In-One was on the way out at ICI has been rife for months, and it seems that 10,000 ICI users around the world are over time going to have to get to grips with OfficeVision – on 3090s in the UK and major centres, AS/400s in the smaller sites; the news is bad but not disastrous for DEC ICI was one of its biggest All-In-One users, but the switch emphatically does not mean a phase-out of VAXes for other purposes at the company.
