IBM/OAKLAND A’S STUDENT PENNANT RACE

On Wednesday Oakland Schools Superintendent Joe Coto announced an ambitious programme to obtain pledges from all Oakland middle school students to attend college or vocational school after graduation from high school, and IBM is supporting the programme with the IBM/Oakland A’s Student Pennant Race, under which it is treating to a free night at an Oakland A’s baseball game 1,000 middle school students who sign the pledge committing them to education beyond high school; Oakland is the other side of San Francisco, summed up in the fact that everyone has heard of the Golden Gate Bridge, but few ever remember the Oakland Bay Bridge.
