IBM Global Services Australia has won an A$350m ($230m) outsourcing contract to provide information technology and telecommunications infrastructure to the Australian federal government’s health agencies. One of the government’s largest outsourcing contracts to date, the five-year agreement involves the provision of IT&T infrastructure to the Health Insurance Commission and the Department of Health and Aged Care.

IBM GSA, which is jointly owned by IBM, Telstra and Lend Lease, won the contract from EDS and CSC following a 10-month bidding process. The win means the three major US services companies have now all won at least one contract each in the government’s outsourcing program.

In March, EDS picked up the A$500m ($327m) ATO contract after winning the A$200m Australian Customs Service bid in late 1997, while CSC landed the A$130m Cluster Three business 18 months ago.
