IBM will consolidate and upgrade the bank’s data center infrastructure, as well as providing infrastructure management services covering desktops, servers, networks, disaster-recovery systems, helpdesk, security, and databases. Affin will retain control of the company’s IT strategy and vendor management.

The contract represents the second recent major win for a western outsourcing giant in Malaysia, following EDS Corp’s RGT 720m ($198m) contract award from banking group CIMB Corp last November. IBM is also three years into a 10-year, $100m IT outsourcing deal with Malaysia Airlines.
