IBM Corp is expected to announce a program Monday that will see it selling its Netfinity servers direct to customers. Under the Netfinity Direct initiative, IBM will allow some of its large corporate customers to deal directly with Big Blue for sales, service and support of Netfinity boxes. The company insists it will use resellers to handle the majority of its accounts – about 80% of them – but will handle large orders directly at the request of the customer. The move is seen as a response to recent market share gains for servers by direct marketer Dell Computer Corp.
