IBM’s Storage Systems Division (SSD) has launched a higher capacity tape cartridge for its Magstar MP 3570 and 3575 tape libraries. IBM said the new product, the Fast Access Linear Tape C-Format XL Data Cartridge, offers 7GB of native capacity (or 21GB with 3:1 compression), representing an increase of up to 40% on the capacity of previously available products. The 3570 library can now store, with 3:1 compression, up to 420GB, while the 3575 now goes up to 6.8TB, again with compression. Mick Turner, tape marketing manager for IBM’s EMEA operations, said the new cartridge will deliver much faster access times, enabling the company to target users with e-business applications.
