Finansa Ltd, London has launched a remote electronic mail system which it will market jointly in the UK with the IBM Information Network unit of IBM Information Solutions Ltd under a new strategic alliance. Called Remote WinMail, the product is claimed to be the first graphical remote mail system to connect directly with IBM’s global Mail Exchange service. It runs under Windows or OS/2, and supports a wide range of graphical features including drag and drop message management, and rules-based filtering and sorting of messages into user-defined folders. Specifically aimed at travelling users, the product enables the user’s location to be selected from a preconfigured list and then automatically reconfigures the system to use the appropriate numbers and baud rates. The product is designed as a Dynamic Link Library and is claimed to integrate mail services seamlessly, enabling users to send messages from within a wide variety of applications. It supports Message Handling System, and is claimed to connect to a wide range of electronic mail packages. Remote WinMail is to replace IBM’s existing MS-DOS-based remote mail client for IBM Mail Exchange, and will be marketed by both companies. It ships this month and will sell for UKP200.
