IBM UK DONATES SYSTEM 38 TO CHILDLINE

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM UK has donated a System 38 small mainframe to Childline, the first UK national helpline for children who feel threatened: the UKP100,000 system will contain information on around 30,000 children who have been counselled and on the 300,000 phone calls answered since the lines opened in October 1986; software for the systems is being developed by IBM agent Lychgate Associates Ltd, and the donation adds to the UKP3.5m of community and charitable contributions that IBM UK reports that it made last year.
