IBM Corp has enlisted disk controller specialist Adaptec Inc, Milpitas, California to develop an input-output specification for OS/2 2.0, saying that it will enable a wealth of new applications for microcomputers running the 32-bit operating system. The new specification incorporates the SCSI Small Computer Systems Interface and is designed to support leading edge input-output devices such as multimedia, disk arrays and file servers. OS/2 2.0 will support Adaptec SCSI host adaptors, enabling machines to connect up to seven SCSI peripherals, although specific Adaptec host adaptor models supported by the new specification will be announced only with the general availability of OS/2 2.0.
