In the meantime, reports of imminent rupture in its relationship with Microsoft Corp over OS/2 forced IBM to issue a denial on Sunday of a story that appeared in yesterday’s edition of InfoWorld. The company denied the report that it would sever its OS/2 relationship with Microsoft and assume primary responsibility for OS/2 itself, saying it thinks Microsoft is as committed to OS/2 as we are. The story refused to die down however, with the New York Times reporting that executives of the two companies met over the weekend to try to clarify the relationship and suggesting that IBM was keen to launch the slimmed-down 2Mb version of OS/2 while Microsoft wanted nothing to do with it because it might crimp sales of the highly successful Windows 3.0, and the Wall Street Journal saying that the two companies would shortly make a joint announcement to clarify the position. The Journal believes that there will be a realignment of the OS/2 responsibilities between the IBM and the Mi crosoft development teams.
