Fiserv is providing check processing services to the Vipro consortium of banks, which include the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, National Australia Bank and Westpac, in an effort to enable users to manage the costs of check processing more effectively.

The IBM contract will see the IT conglomerate provide Fiserv with a range of IT services covering infrastructure, networks and desktop PCs, as well as application development and management. IBM will also offer e-business hosting services from its data centers.

We believed it was important to leverage IBM’s existing infrastructure rather than create something from scratch, said Ken True, CEO of Fiserv Solutions of Australia. IBM is an important partner to us as we do our part to help transform the Australian payments industry.

Although Fiserv fought off rivals Unisys and EDS for the Vipro contract, Australia’s other large bank ANZ has elected to see through its existing check processing venture with Telstra’s subsidiary Kaz.
