IBM would be inclined to shrug off renewed attacks on its object-code-only software policy from Adapso, the Association of Data Processing Service Organisations, and its demand that IBM abandon the proprietary OS/2 Extended Edition and instead sell the Data Base Manager and the Communications Manager to be included in that product only as separately priced items for use with OS/2 Standard Edition – were it not for the fact that Adapso is seeking the support of the EEC Commission for its demands: IBM has to treat the Commission with respect because its power is theoretically enormous; Adapso’s return to the source code issue is sparked by the settlement reached by the American Arbitration Association in IBM’s dispute with Fujitsu, which gives the Japanese company access to the IBM source code – at a hefty price.
