The fuss IBM Corp plans to make about the Taligent Inc CommonPoint application development technologies it will unveil during Object Expo in New York this week has surprised sources to whom our sister paper Unigram.X spoke. IBM has already begun its early experience programme for OS/2 and AIX and will include the CommonPoint beta and 1.0 reference releases in its ongoing developer kits during 1995. Taligent, which released the CommonPoint beta version to its investors in March, is gearing up for the introduction of the 1.0 Reference Release over the summer. Taligent boss Joe Gugliemi warned SunSoft Inc’s Bud Tribble he will be booking a restaurant at Bud’s expense following their bet on who would be first out with an object environment. IBM’s mainframe group will also be announcing a slew of the object technologies it has promised for MVS next week.
