It really is splendid news – NOT! that IBM Corp is to differentiate PC-DOS from MS-DOS with features that are not in the Microsoft Corp version (CI No 2,057): it means that peripatetic users – of which there are hordes – will sit down at a machine that has the IBM rather than the Microsoft version they are used to on it, and will find the things they expect to be there are missing, and will not know the ones that IBM has so kindly added, so such users will end up increasingly limiting themselves to a common subset of the two – so much for IBM’s commitment to open systems…
