IBM’s new Express RFID Service enables companies to generate and attach RFID tags to multi-item cartons and pallets to track their movement in the supply chain. The company said it was designed to simplify the deployment and daily operation of an RFID system.

Geared toward small- and medium-sized businesses, the service would comply with RFID tagging mandates by the US Department of Defense, Wal-Mart, Target and other major retailers, IBM said.

The service is part of IBM’s broader push into the SME market, which it values at $360 billion.
